Federal teams are expected in Kansas City to help investigate a building fire that killed two firefighters.

“They saved two Vietnamese tenants of ours and then they lost their lives”, said Linda Tran, the building owner’s daughter.

All firefighters were accounted for and outside the building when part of the second story caved in, forcing a wall to collapse outwards about 30 feet and trapping the four firefighters who had been working to protect a nearby grocery store from the blaze, Berardi said at a news conference Tuesday. Tax-deductible donations will be given to the families of firefighters Leggio and Mesh. He didn’t provide their ages. Before the wall fell, shortly after 8 p.m. Monday, firefighters had rescued at least three persons from the combination apartment and commercial building.
