The iconic band announced the news on their official Twitter page with a photo of members John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison and the slogan “now streaming”. Re/code later reported that the music would be available on all major streaming services. Streaming services such as Spotify have been on the rise since 2007.

According to Statistic Brain, the Beatles had sold 2.3 billion albums as of February 2014; 585,000 albums on iTunes; and 2.8 million iTunes singles.

The best-selling band in history, The Beatles, has never been available to stream until now.

Streaming services have been involved in legal spats with the music industry and broadcasters – songs recorded before 1972 are not covered by United States federal copyright laws, but bands and recording labels have been seeking protection and royalties under state laws.

The move is in part a nod to the growing revenue found in streaming. Well, not really magical, but it will actually lead you to your favorite Beatles song or album.
