Little Big Town and Chris Stapleton rule the 2015 CMA Awards

So… does this mean that we’re going to be getting a full-length Justin Timberlake country album soon because after his performance with Chris Stapleton at the 2015 CMA Awards, we NEED it.

Presenters at the show, airing live on ABC at 8 p.m. Eastern and hosted by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley, include Lee Ann Womack, Darius Rucker, Edie Brickell, Steve Martin and members of the US women’s soccer team.

Although his thunder was unintentionally stolen by Stapleton, who won his third award minutes before the 2015 Entertainer of the Year was announced, Luke Bryan took home the CMA’s biggest honor for the second year in a row.

Wednesday night is considered country music’s biggest night of the year.

Stapleton won male vocalist of the year, an award won by Blake Shelton for the last five years. The duo delivered the best performance of the night with Stapleton’s stunning cover of George Jones’ “Tennessee Whiskey” and Timberlake’s acoustic, country-leaning “Drink You Away”. The former won the Single of the Year and Song of the Year Awards for their hit “Girl Crush” as well as Vocal Group of the Year.

“Of course, we can’t ignore the breakup that really rocked our world, the one that’s on everybody’s mind, two people in this very room whom we all know and love – splitsville”, Underwood said.

“Look, they’re not even sitting together”, Paisley said as the camera panned to Sesame Street’s Miss Piggy and Kermit the frog.

We’ve got a big ol’ crush on the Country Music Association Awards this year. Do you want to hear Justin Timberlake sing more country music songs? For the past several years, artists like Blake Shelton, Lambert, and Bryan have dominated the prizes. He worked as a songwriter for 15 years, but didn’t get his big break until he signed with Warner Chappell Music as a solo artist in January 2014.

Lambert won Female Vocalist of the Year, her only award on the night.

“Thank you Lord, thank you Jesus, thank you everyone in heaven looking out for me”, Bryan said.

That was followed by a pair of duets: Eric Church and Hank Williams Jr performed “Are You Ready for the Country” and John Mellencamp and Urban strummed their guitars during “Pink Houses”.

It’s commonly accepted that the best way to build a sustainable mainstream country music career is if you can hit it big on country radio.
