Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp may not “risk” Philippe Coutinho against Tottenham

Jurgen Klopp returns to the scene of his first game as Liverpool manager at Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday, still searching for an effective winning formula.

“Of course it’s more hard for me to play wide because I am a centre-forward”, Sturridge said. “He felt something so we didn’t want to take a risk (against Burton)”, Klopp said.

The Brazilian midfielder is suffering from a minor hamstring injury that he picked up during the Reds’ 2-0 loss against Burnley the previous weekend.

Daniel Sturridge netted twice in Liverpool’s 0-5 EFL Cup win at Burton in midweek and attracts as a 13/8 anytime scorer alongside England teammate, Harry Kane, who leads that market at 6/5.

“From what I have seen, the players Klopp has brought in are not better than the ones who have left”, Keown told BBC Sport. Klopp obviously has a gameplan which involves incorporating Sturridge but the player may need to learn quickly.

“We have different players for that position but when two of them are not available you have a little bit of a problem”.

The German acknowledged that they “have to talk to the player” and that from “the medical side”, Coutinho’s injury is “not a big issue” but said that it was “big enough” in order to “leave him out” in mid-week.

“We have still to work on a lot of things”.

Martin Keown believes Jurgen Klopp’s summer signings have failed to strengthen his Liverpool squad.

We have the options to cover, insists Reds boss Coutinho in training with teammates Origi and Firmino on Thursday.

Regardless, he’s confident that they have the options to change the starting line-up around.

He is yet to score this season, but took seven games to get off the mark last term and ended the campaign with the Golden Boot as Mauricio Pochettino’s men finished third behind Leicester City and Arsenal.

“There is no reason at this moment to think about what could happen if we have too big a squad because we are working on this side but I cannot say anything about it until September 1”.
