Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp: ‘Our decision-making against Burnley was poor’

The former Borussia Dortmund manager has been urged to buy a new left-back to replace Alberto Moreno, who has been found wanting on a number of occasions, but chose to deploy the England global, who is primarily a midfielder.

“If someone doesn’t perform too well we talk about it in a press conference?”

Goals from Sam Vokes and Andre Gray gave Burnley their first victory of the campaign, following a home loss to Swansea in their opener.

“We had absolutely no luck and everybody needs to be more clinical”.

“You can say that we should be ready in our development and these mistakes should not happen any more, but obviously in our training drills we didn’t play the ball straight to our opponent!”

Whether it’s buying the wrong players; failing to sign enough players; picking the wrong team or simply losing a football match; the first false step causes the game’s legion of the entitled to yell “sell” and “buy” with equal levels of indignation.

But the side failed to break down a resolute defence and the performance highlighted their own defensive issues, which have seen them concede five goals from their first two games.

“Even at half-time, I felt we still had the possibility of it. I got sent off there as well, so I had one good time and one bad time”.

“It was a situation, a challenge between two players up in the air, coming down and then Sadio fell on his shoulder but it’s not that serious”, Klopp explained.

“We did a lot of good things, but at the end we made the wrong decisions. But we did. Now we have to accept the result and carry on”.

Meanwhile, Burnley boss Dyche was dismissive of the statistic of possession and pointed out that, as his team proved emphatically against Liverpool, it often has little bearing on the result of a game.

“A good tempo to how they work, a real pressing game and that aggressive football in passing with a objective and getting the ball moved quickly”.

“So one can get injured, and if another gets injured during a game, you still have an option”. “We have to do better”. We made two mistakes and they scored two goals and we didn’t create any big chances.
