Liverpool boss Klopp in the dark over Sturridge fitness

It’s great. After the game at Wembley, we were walking around to thank the fans.

Liverpool have one friendly remaining this summer, tomorrow against German outfit Mainz, while they start their Premier League campaign away at Arsenal next Sunday.

Klopp was coy about his starting lineup for that game at the Emirates but the XI he began with against Barça looked close to what should be expected, a couple of injuries excepting. “We played some games that were very good, others that were less good”.

Having convincingly beaten Barca 4-0 on Saturday, only Emre Can and Adam Lallana kept their places for Liverpool, but Mainz had themselves played two midweek games, so made four changes from their 2-0 defeat to Novara.

Daniel Sturridge’s hip injury remains a concern for Jurgen Klopp ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League opener at Arsenal. [Roberto] Firmino has been the man of preseason for me as from the very first game he has been performing, even if he has not scored.

“We have to learn better that when we stay deep, we must be active and it was a little bit of a problem, but there were also some wonderful moments”.

First, though, they had to travel to Jurgen Klopp’s former side Mainz for their final pre-season friendly.

“We had a good run around, nothing more”.

The striker will now miss Liverpool’s final pre-season game at Mainz this afternoon and the Express claim that the 26-year-old will nearly certainly be ruled out of the Merseysiders trip to the Emirates next Sunday. “We have the possibility to react if we need to and that’s what we will do, I’m pretty sure”.

A lesson that has been plaguing Liverpool for ages, it seems, as their own mentalities during matches has seemed to be their downfall time and again.

“Barcelona start one week later in the season, that’s a difference in pre-season always”.

“We have to work hard to arrive at our best level because the Supercopa de Espana is coming up, so we have to work hard to prepare”.
