Liverpool can’t outpass Arsenal, Klopp mulls other ploys

Arsene Wenger’s men sit top of the Premier League with 42 points from 20 games and hold a two-point lead over Leicester City, while Liverpool are down in eighth position.

Jurgen Klopp has marked his most testing week as Liverpool manager by declaring that progress is more important than results and his players must not be obsessed with the outcome as they play Arsenal at Anfield tonight.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp played a team nearly entirely made up of youngsters in Liverpool’s third-round FA Cup tie at Exeter on Friday night, a game that ended in a 2-2 draw and a replay he probably could have done without. “It’s possession football, so it’s clear that if we want to play the same way we will be without a chance because they’ve been doing it for longer”.

But speaking ahead of Wednesday’s visit of Arsenal, Klopp said he wasn’t prepared to talk about deals until they’re done, before adding: “My private advice to you is don’t follow the Pato path any longer”. “For sure, with what we have shown against City and Chelsea this season, I think they will come with caution”.

While Arsenal are a team fighting on all fronts with the FA Cup, Champions League and League title in their sights, Liverpool are concentrating on trying to mount a Champions League challenge, as in challenge for the top four and a place in next year’s competition.

The scenario is still more positive for Klopp, who was facing up to the possibility of tackling Arsene Wenger’s high-flying Gunners without any recognised centre-backs a few days ago.

“But I think he done very well in the job and he has an opportunity to integrate a big club”.

“It’s really intense to work in the Premier League, especially in a team with worldwide matches too”.

Klopp is struggling with a chronic injury list as he looks to improve on a run of two wins from their last six Barclays Premier League games.

Klopp, who enjoyed great success with Borussia Dortmund in Germany, took over at Liverpool earlier this season and has since seen his squad decimated by injuries.

Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovren, Philippe Coutinho, Divock Origi, Daniel Sturridge, Joe Gomez and Danny Ings are all definitely out, although the likes of James Milner, Jordan Ibe and Jordan Henderson do look set to feature. The 24-year-old will be at Anfield until the end of the season.

“They are Liverpool and they are a big team, at any point they can react and we just hope it will not be against us”. “They are in a good moment”.
