Liverpool eye shock swoop for Man United star
With the summer transfer window now closed for business, it’s time to start looking at those deals that failed to get over the line and those which are being lined-up for the future.

On the other hand, Liverpool’s main keeper Simon Mignolet has already proven to not be a reliable man ever since his inconsistent sparks of brilliance at the end of last season and Brad Jones is simply not up to the task.
He has now fallen behind David De Gea, Sergio Romero and Sam Johnstone in the pecking order at the club and is expected to leave sooner rather than later.
Liverpool were apparently interested in Valdes after the expiry of his Barcelona contract a year ago, but a revival in form for Mignolet meant a new goalkeeper was never sought.
Chelsea are also said to be in the hunt as Thibaut Courtois is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines and Jose Mourinho wants cover for current number one Asmir Begovic. Valdes was once a realistic transfer target, but at this point it would be surprising to see Liverpool make a serious move for him.
I think he’d be a shrewd buy for either club if they could get a deal agreed as Valdes was top class before his knee injury.
However, any move is still extremely unlikely.

However, while Manchester United are loath to sell any player to their rivals down the East Lancs Road, they do want to offload Valdes.
