Liverpool fails to win in third match with Klopp, draws Southampton

Roberto Firmino is back after nursing a back injury and made an appearance from the bench during Liverpool’s 1-1 draw against Rubin Kazan. Liverpool are missing Daniel Sturridge, Jordan Henderson from their starting line up and have lost Gomez and Ings to long term injuries for the season. “It is almost a bit freaky – there have been so many good and successful German managers and yet no one has been here”.

Manuel Pellegrini’s City could point to the absence of injured duo Sergio Aguero and David Silva, which partly explained why their attack ran dry after a flood of 11 goals in two league games.

Klopp said: “It’s not that we stopped our game physically, but we didn’t believe we could turn this game, switch this game”.

There was little to speak of in the opening 45 minutes, aside from Simon Mignolet clawing away Virgil van Dijk’s free header just before the break.

Into his second week on the job and Klopp was still smiling but I reckon his amusing bone was vibrating the wrong way when Sadio Mane bundled Southampton’s equaliser into the net with only a few minutes left on the clock.

“What a superb header from Benteke”. When we go in the box we have to be better. “I prefer to play in another way but we defended well”. Leaping like a salmon and meeting Milner’s cross like a bullet, Benteke stunned the Anfield crowd with a wonderous header. It was why the club spent £32.5million on him in the summer.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool failed to win again as the Reds had to settle for another draw with Southampton. Saints manager Ronald Koeman was a lot more composed. Mane’s afternoon ended in frustration, as he was sent off after collecting two bookings in stoppage time. I don’t know how the transfer committee thought they would fit them in. They work so hard, they are full of concentration, everything is there.

We saw it with Andy Carroll for West Ham against Chelsea and with Benteke for Liverpool, while Pelle has provided a similar outlet throughout the season. “It’s only a goal and you can come back always and that’s what we have to understand”. “But everybody saw how ready they are”. You can receive goals.

Clyne said that because he has played with Lallana so much for both club and country he has a great understanding with the midfielder so is happy to see him on the right.

“Nobody was able to push, say something positive at the moment”. We lose three times one on one in the air, bad luck and it’s a draw.

“That’s what I’m working on now, training to be really sharp and 100%”.
