Liverpool have agreed a deal in the region of £25m with Newcastle United for midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, according to Sky sources.

“Jurgen Klopp has already proved he is succeeding and transforming Liverpool in the short time he has been there”.
And Kuyt, who scored 71 games in 285 games for Liverpool, revealed that the Reds have kept tabs on Wijnaldum since he was a youth player at Feyenoord.
Liverpool’s £25 million bid includes a player fee of £23 million plus a £1 million appearance-related add-on fee along with an additional £1 million for various targets that he could achieve with the club.
Wijnaldum’s move to Anfield has been held up while the two clubs try to agree on how the fee will be paid, with Newcastle favouring all the money up front. “After these years, in Italy and the last four years in Germany, I hadn’t given up, I hadn’t said “that’s it”, I still waited for the phone call”, Manninger said today upon completion of the deal, reported in the Echo. “I was very happy with the progress made last season”, Whelan told the Mirror.
“Of course Liverpool is a big club with a good history”.
When I played at Liverpool, they already said that he would be a great signing one day. “He gives something back to the group with his passion so I look forward to working with him”.
“At this moment I have no idea who I will play in our first friendly game in the USA, I think we have 15 or 16 players who could go 90 minutes and we will see how the English and Belgian boys are”. ‘He gave me a lot of confidence, he told me he liked my way of playing football and that he wanted to have me in his squad.
“He eventually makes it to Liverpool via PSV and Newcastle”. While he’s definitely a good player and a few other clubs were poking around at him, he’s hardly a superstar and Newcastle had just been relegated so they didn’t have a ton of leverage.

He said it is up to him and his new teammates to make the manager’s selections “difficult for him”, adding: “Everyone wants to play, we need to train well and then he will decide on the line-up”.
