Manager Jurgen Klopp said recently he is hopeful of Henderson returning to team training this week and England global told Sky Sports: “I’m getting there”.

The Reds captain has therefore yet to play under new boss Jurgen Klopp following his appointment last month but that’s set to change over the coming weeks.

The Belgium worldwide impressed during Liverpool’s brilliant 4-1 victory over Premier League champions-elect Manchester City on Saturday, a result that showed the title picture is far from a one-horse race this season.

“I’ve had my criticism of him for two or three years, I even got pulled in and asked not to criticise him so openly”, admitted Grobbelaar. “This is one of the longest periods of time I’ve been out for and that has been tough for me”, said the Liverpool captain of his frustrating and prolonged spell on the sidelines before confirming that he’s not far off from getting back in the thick of things.

“That’s what you need as a player – the confidence of the manager and the whole staff, [knowing] that they’re behind you and we’re working in the same direction”, the Belgian added.

“Hopefully we can keep learning from him and improving”.

With the January transfer window opening in just over a month, Premier League managers will be casting an eye over possible signings – and Grobbelaar believes Klopp could decide to strengthen his goalkeeping department. However, prior to the worldwide break, Klopp confirmed there was no issue.
