The defender suffered the problem in Liverpool’s League Cup tie with Carlisle United on Wednesday night, the Reds scraping through by the skin of their teeth with a 3-2 victory on penalties.

And a statement on the Brazilian Football Confederation’s website confirmed Firmino had been replaced in Dunga’s national squad by Ricardo Oliveira for their games against Chile and Venezuela on OCtober 8 and 13 respectively.

And he was unable to say when Firmino will be fit again.

However, Liverpool assistant manager Gary McAllister calmed fears regarding the extent of Lovren and Firmino’s injuries, claiming that they were just awkward falls, while hoping that it is not as bad as it first looked, especially in the case of the Croatian worldwide, who has found some form this season after a disappointing debut campaign for the Anfield outfit last season.

“All three will not be available for the weekend,” Rodgers said.

“Christian will probably be out for a little bit of time”. Firmino landed awkwardly and may have cracked a bone in his back. Lovren’s injury will hand Mamadou Sakho a chance to reclaim his spot in the starting XI.

According to ESPN FC sources, Liverpool’s Christian Benteke is likely to miss the Merseyside derby after suffering a hamstring strain against Norwich City.

“We’ll see how he’ll be over the coming weeks, but certainly he’ll be unavailable for tomorrow [for the clash with Aston Villa]”.
