Liverpool latest: Reds plotting January move for 19-year-old Schalke starlet

Scouse punters flicking peanuts into their pints remember that Liverpool reportedly had a £12m offer rejected by Schalke over the summer and hope that an offer in the New Year will be more tempting for the Bundesliga giants.

However, a move failed to materialise and the winger ended up staying with the German side beyond the summer.

According to magazine Sport Bild, Liverpool offered €15 million (RM73.79 million) for the fleet-footed teenager who has scored in each of Schalke’s last three games and has a contract until 2019.

“There was one or more prestigious club that contacted us about Sane”, Heldt told Bild.

Our interest in Sane then is likely with view to the long-term, in a similar way in which we snapped up Divock Origi last summer. The report claims that Tottenham were not put off by Schalke’s stance of having no intention to sell Sane, and are ready to make another approach for him. I am really not concerned about losing the player.

The forward was chased by clubs at as young an age as 17, with Ajax offering €5m for his signature, but failing to land the starlet.

Liverpool are said to remain interested, however, and may try again for a player that has scored three goals in two starts and five substitute appearances in the Bundesliga so far this season.
