He added that, despite suffering a patchy period, the players are staying “very calm” and working “very hard” in the knowledge that they will get their rewards, which he said Liverpool did in their win over Villa, expressing his delight for the squad. I sensed an over-confidence in Brendan’s team talks. The bulky Belgian worldwide was vast at previous club Aston Villa, but is yet to really get going for the Reds, scoring only two goals in six games.

Liverpool fans inside the Transfer Tavern are in a reasonably good mood after yesterday’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Aston Villa, which saw Daniel Sturridge return to goalscoring action, but they’re still concerned about their manager.

“With the way we’ve been playing the last two games, we’ve been a bit unlucky with the shots we’ve had – we’ve dominated the games and conceded a few goals we can work on”, Milner said. “It’s not rocket science”. But after seeing his side move within five points of leaders Manchester United, the Liverpool manager condemned the “hysteria” he believes has been deliberately stirred in recent weeks. And they netted a second goal in a game for the first time in 11 games as Sturridge scored his first goal in five months with a deft outside-of-the-boot finish after Milner had lifted the ball over the defence. I thought how we coped and handled it today from the first whistle was excellent.

Lucas was impressed, even though he is fully aware of the striker’s lethal nature, but warned Liverpool’s opponents that Sturridge is not even operating at his peak yet, given his lengthy injury layoff. The focus has not been on what we have missed but to get me out of the club’.

“The players and the supporters were fantastic today, we gave them something to sing about”.

“That is a major disappointment but it is something I expected”. The young star was doing well but was dropped at the weekend and now has been sent back to Liverpool where he’ll now play for the reserve and youth sides.
