Yet he was impressive in Liverpool’s tight win at Anfield that was secured with a Nathaniel Clyne goal and won this praise from his boss.

Linda Pizzuti, wife of Liverpool owner John W Henry was particularly excited by the Reds keeping a clean sheet. All the players wanted to win.

Klopp’s selection had given a number of players who have been absent from the starting XI of late the chance to impress and, of those, Firmino, Teixeira and Jordon Ibe had looked arguably the brightest in the early stages. Daniel Sturridge’s ongoing injury is slowly turning out to be an issue for Liverpool as he has spent more time on the sidelines in the last two years.

Both teams have six players on the sidelines and it will be crucial for Klopp and Howe to use their squad players for rotation.

New Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, hasn’t produced a victory for his team since taking over for the sacked Brendan Rodgers.

Liverpool have enough players in most areas to challenge in each competition.

It’s been a long time coming for 22-year-old Teixeira, but he made the most of his Anfield debut with a creative and influential display.

“We were dominant, we played football and had our moments”. Roberto Firminio played in Carlos Teixeira and his cheeky backheel was cleared off the line by Adam Smith, only for Clyne to slam home with his left boot to open his Liverpool account.

Origi’s run down the right and Firmino’s perfectly weighted pass warrant praise but what really caught the eye was Teixeira’s piece of skill to beat Bournemouth goalkeeper Adam Federici.

Bournemouth nearly responded instantly as Stanislas brought two fine saves out of Bogdan; firstly with a close-range header then a wicked free-kick.

Klopp said he expects Christian Benteke, inset, who missed the game with a knee injury, to be fit for Saturday’s trip to Chelsea. “He was deservedly Man of the Match today”.
