Liverpool midfielder Luis Alberto completes switch to Lazio

Luis Alberto becomes the first of several likely Liverpool Deadline Day departures from Anfield after completing a medical with the Italian side Lazio.

The Spaniard travelled to Rome on Monday before finalising the deal and the Reds could recoup more of the fee they paid for the midfielder in 2013 if certain conditions are met.

The Reds will bank £4.3million up front with add-ons – triggered in the event of European qualification – taking the fee up to £6million.

It marks the end of a largely disappointing three years for the Spanish playmaker.

Meanwhile, Mamadou Sakho is set to stay at Liverpool even though he has been told he will not play again this season by manager Jurgen Klopp.

The following season, 2014-15 he was loaned to Malaga, before heading to Deportivo La Coruna for the 2015-16 season. Ultimately, if the technically gifted but lightweight Joe Allen was moved on, the 23-year-old stood little chance of making a mark.

Alberto moved to Liverpool from Sevilla in June 2013 and made 12 appearances in all competitions.
