Liverpool have no intention of joining the race to sign Newcastle United star Andros Townsend despite speculation suggesting otherwise.
According to the Mirror, Liverpool have just joined the hunt, but they face stiff competition from Manchester City, Crystal Palace, West Ham and Southampton for the international’s service.
It’s no secret that Klopp wishes to continue to bolster his squad ahead of next season though, and in turn he has been linked with various players including Southampton star Sadio Mane, as noted by the Echo.
At £10.5m and only 24 years of age, Townsend therefore represents good value for money and will have plenty more to offer given his age.
As reported in the Chronicle today, Newcastle are hopeful of holding on to Townsend – with the player understood to be happy on Tyneside and convinced the Magpies can bounce back at the first time of asking after relegation from the Premier League.
Newcastle are said to be desperate to keep Townsend at St. James’ Park, where he is on £55,000 per week.
