Liverpool ready to return with improved offer for Joao Mario

The idea is giving him on loan to a top flight club to have him back in the next season with more experience.

The 17-year-old’s father and agent, Hans-Erik Odegaard, is keen for his son to move to a Bundesliga club temporarily, but would also accept a German manager – reveals the Daily Mail.

The Norway worldwide is unlikely to secure regular first-team football under Klopp, either, with a host of attacking talents ahead of him in the pecking order.

Liverpool are focused on winning, not developing another team’s players, and unless Klopp believes he could find a way to convince Odegaard to stay with Liverpool once his loan move comes to an end, there’s no reason for the club to chase a move.

A potential target could be Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Mario, with Diario de Noticias reporting earlier this summer they had seen a £33 million bid rejected.

“Proposals for the lad don’t come directly to me”, Joao Mario Eduardo said.

The 23-year-old took his excellent form in to this summers European Championships where he featured six times as Portugal lifted the trophy with a surprise 1-0 victory over hosts France in Paris last month.

According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Klopp has already had a bid of €40m turned down with the Portuguese club holding out for €60m for the talented midfielder. Today, Liverpool are linked with Joao Mario… It’s a very tough competition for such a young man, playing against physical veterans who want to make a statement against a famous kid. The same could happen to Mario once he’s asked to expand his game, and for now, the Reds are better off spending their money elsewhere.
