Liverpool defender Joel Matip has explained on the club’s official website what the fans can expect from him.
The Cameroon worldwide, who has spent the past 16 years with the Gelsenkirchen club, was considered one of the Bundesliga’s best centre backs last season.
The physical demands of the Premier League mean Joel Matip will be spending plenty of time in the gym ahead of the new campaign.
But despite that, he is backing himself to succeed on Merseyside.
The Cameroon global is a very good defender, and he should prove to be a good signing for Liverpool.
Matip became the Merseysiders’ first signing of the summer after agreeing to leave Schalke at the end of his contract.
“I have to work, but when I do it I can play a big part in this team”.
“The Bundesliga is also on a high level, maybe on a different level but I think I’ve got enough to play here”.
“There was the coach, the club, the supporters; everything was good, so it was a simple decision for me”.
“I decided for myself, but I think [Jurgen Klopp and his staff] help me to get fit for this level”. “Everyone knows Liverpool. I was a little bit sad about leaving Schalke but very happy and excited to join Liverpool at the same time”, he further added.
“It’s a great pleasure and honour to be a part of this big club”.
