Liverpool’s optimism punctured by 2-0 loss at Burnley
Burnley put in a terrific team shift and took their chances when they arrived but Klopp said Liverpool were unfortunate.

Liverpool had a staggering 26 shots on goal but the visitors could only keep five of those attempts on target as Klopp’s side suffered their first defeat of the season.
Chelsea were not to be denied as £33m summer signing Michy Batshuayi came off the bench to score his first goal in English football.
Liverpool had 80.6% possession – the most of a defeated side since such records started, but Dyche noted: “Like I say, possession has to lead to something, and I don’t think they opened us up too many times”.
The manner of their victory at Emirates Stadium had given Liverpool plenty of reasons for early season optimism but, unfortunately for them, the only part of that performance they repeated came at the back.
Midfielder James Milner, who replaced the under-fire Alberto Moreno, looked understandably uncomfortable as a stand-in left-back.
High-priced Burnley acquisition Steven Defour made his debut for the Clarets and assisted on Gray’s goal.
“On the occasions that you are playing the clubs like Liverpool it’s even more important to give belief to everyone”.
Time and time again the Brazilian picked up the ball in space on the edge of the Burnley area looking to bend in one of his trademark spectacular goals but, of his nine strikes from similar range, only one brought a save from Tom Heaton.
Klopp also questioned his player’s decision making before stating that Liverpool are by no means the finished product under his stewardship.
“The season is still pretty young”, Klopp said. It doesn’t look like we are 100 per cent fine tuned. “There is something marvellous when you see someone give everything to the cause – that’s what I thought we did”.

“We knew the midfield would have to work hard and we could produce a good performance with two banks of four. That’s the plan and I’m pleased we did”.
