Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho expected to miss meeting with Newcastle

However, Liverpool manager Klopp was coy on whether the 23-year-old playmaker would feature against the Magpies at St James’s Park on Sunday afternoon.

“I told him “you have to do this, this and this, not do the hard things too often and so on” – and he said “yes, yes and yes, I know, I know”.

Meanwhile, Liverpool were drawn to face Stoke City in the League Cup semi-finals on Wednesday, opening up the possibility of a final against either Manchester City or Merseyside rivals Everton.

“We have to be careful with the muscle”. When you feel it you stop.

“He is training. We will wait”.

Time to have a look in detail at his much discussed new system then – and before we get into the small detail, to make an important point about the philosophy, one I think has been overlooked amid the fascination with the pressing. But yesterday nobody gave me that sign. “So we will have to wait again”.

At the time, I argued this was wishful thinking in the extreme, and after missing three games in a row, Klopp has confirmed Coutinho’s injury is more serious than he initially thought. “We don’t have any ideas yet about where we can get to – it’s a fantastic football club and everyone here loves working at this club and everything is really good”, continued the Reds boss, keen to keep feet firmly on the ground.

Klopp will also be without Emre Can for the weekend through suspension, and even though the German is thrilled with his countryman, he insisted the young midfielder still has a lot to learn.

“That is how it should be and I hope it will stay like this and we have more players than we need”.

Jurgen Klopp has been impressed with Liverpool’s recent performances, but warned his players confidence can disappear quickly.

“We had a real good analysis of the Swansea style, then they came to Anfield and played completely different”. The plan before the game was to give him 55 to 60 minutes.

“Of course, he felt each muscle after the game and that’s normal because it was intensive”.

‘I only know about the actual situation at Newcastle now, not why they changed managers in the past.

Away from home, the Reds are looking unstoppable and have scored 13 goals in total in wins at Chelsea, Manchester City and Southampton under Klopp, whose high-pressing, high-energy game is paying off.
