Liverpool, Spurs draw 1-1

Danny Rose’s late volley secured a 1-1 draw for Tottenham after a James Milner penalty threatened to see Liverpool leave White Hart Lane with all three points on Saturday. “We have to accept all the things that happened around [the game]”. We were really flexible in offensive defending and then played football. And then you have to change again in the game. “I am not complaining, but we have 60, 70 per cent of our squad on global duties, and it makes it very hard for us”. Tottenham is not a game you win by four or five goals.

“We have to accept it”.

“We played a very good away game against a very strong side”.

Erik Lamela clipped Roberto Firmino as he darted into the area and although the contact did not appear to be deliberate, the penalty was given and Milner gave Vorm no chance.

Jürgen Klopp has refused to be drawn into Liverpool’s problems at left-back, which saw James Milner taking over after Alberto Moreno’s performance against Arsenal on the opening day of the season. “We’re just missing a few goals more”.

“Actually, why should I think about something like this?” “Full-back is not only a winger in the offence situations”. Not every excellent player can thrive under every excellent manager.

“We were convinced that he can play the position – that’s why we didn’t make a transfer in this position with another player”.

Spurs recorded their highest-ever Premier League finish last season, eventually placing third.

“Of course the players know they should score”.

Even in the big games last season, Klopp was choosing [Roberto] up front instead of Sturridge’. “I sign again to do the same”. They didn’t play great against Crystal Palace last weekend but they were solid and got the late goal. Michel Vorm saved them a few times.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino insists Kyle Walker’s substitution in the 28th minute due to illness had a significant impact on his team.

Mane thought he had doubled Liverpool’s lead in the 56th minute, but Adam Lallana was adjudged to have strayed offside before he squared the ball for the Senegal global to score. “I never complain about my squad”, he said.
