Liverpool transfer news: Mario Balotelli ‘set for transfer move to Italy

Italian striker Mario Balotelli is set for a return to Italy after a lacklustre performance in just one season with Liverpool FC, according to British media reports.

The problem with Balotelli has often been his lack of work-rate and that hasn’t changed at Liverpool.

Balotelli’s salary has proven an issue to several suitors, despite Liverpool willing to pay a high percentage of his wages to help facilitate any loan move. He now faces a huge battle to force his way into manager Brendan Rodgers’s plans for the new campaign.

On Thursday morning, Sky Sport Italia reported that the Biancocelesti had opened talks with Liverpool and hope to land Balotelli in time for the Serie A club’s Champions League playoff fixtures at the end of August.

Corivino has since confirmed the Emilia-Romagna side’s interest in Balotelli, but warned hopeful Liverpool supporters the Serie B play-off winners have to respect certain financial parameters.

Bologna’s director of sport, Pantaleo Corvino, is interested in taking Balotelli on loan but would consider a permanent transfer if a fee could be agreed.

The controversial forward, 24, only signed for Liverpool last year from AC Milan in a deal worth £16m, but has failed to deliver for the Reds and scored just 4 goals in 28 games.

Mario Balotelli’s hopes of first-team football at Liverpool decreased with the signing of Christian Benteke.
