Liz Dawn makes cameo appearance in Emmerdale

Vera Duckworth, much loved Coronation Street stalwart, went to the great soap graveyard in the sky in 2010 after dying peacefully in her sleep – possibly the only soap character ever not to be bumped off by a falling tram/ whacked on the head with a bust of Queen Victoria / trampled by an angry cow.

The battle-axe will stay at Eric Pollard’s B&B and make a name for herself as a particularly demanding guest.

Talking about the role, Dawn said: “I love my character”.

The insider added: “Another bug bear to her is the leaking of plot lines”. What a feisty lady she is!

“I’ve worked with him over many years at Corrie and he’s a lovely man, really good at what he does and very creative”. The doctors have told me there is nothing more they can do.

Liz Dawn can be seen as Mrs Winterbottom in Emmerdale’s hour-long Christmas Day episode on ITV.

Born and raised in Burmantofts, Liz had stints working as a seamstress, cinema usherette and lightbulb seller before getting her big break on Coronation Street.

With on-screen husband Jack, played by Bill Tarmey, in 2002.

The former Corrie star, who was a part of the ensemble for over 30 years, said her one-off appearance in the Yorkshire Dales is to celebrate her 76th birthday.

Speaking about her health on a celebrity version of the Jeremy Kyle Show in 2014, the actress revealed: “I take a lot of tablets”.

Established stars such as William Roache, 83, and Michael Le Vell, 50, earn £250,000-a-year, while other major names such as Kym bank £100,000 per annum, however, newcomers get paid just £40,000 for 12 months’ work.
