Lloyd Wins Golden Ball, Silver Boot Awards

The Delran native who scored three goals in the United States’ victory over Japan in the Women’s World Cup final said on CBS Monday she feels good and expects to play again in 2019. The United States is coming home with a few more trophies as well.
She also won the Silver Boot after a double tie-breaker, which saw Germany’s Celia Sasic take the top goal-scorer’s award due to having played less time.
Hollins wasn’t on hand to witness his fiancé’s star-making moment Sunday in Canada, as he recently told the New York Post that Lloyd likes to be 100 percent focused on comeptition: “She doesn’t have to worry about me being in the stands, family being there, doesn’t have to worry about meeting up after the game”.
“I called her my beast”, US manager Jill Ellis said. “I’m just so proud of the team, and everything hasn’t sunk in yet”.

“In the future maybe I will look back and be proud of it. But we didn’t achieve what we came here for, so it is not easy to think about this at the moment”.
Portsmouth’s own Jill Ellis gave “rock star” billing to Carli Lloyd after leading the United States to Women’s World Cup glory. “This is such an unbelievable group, and collectively, I’m so proud of everyone”.

Already a two-time Olympic gold medallist, she became just the second American to win the Golden Ball, joining Carin Jennings, who won the award in 1991, and her performance immediately earned her the seal of approval from USA President Barack Obama.
