The Boston Fire Department tweeted Wednesday evening that “his family would like to thank the dedicated staff at BMC, Boston EMS, those that rescued Sean and friends for their support”.
An off-duty Boston firefighter and a group of teens from Milton pulled Sean Malone from the water near the L Street Bathhouse last Monday.
The Boston Globe previously reported that a firefighter Chris Flaherty was working out with other firefighters on the beach when he became concerned at how far out Malone was swimming.
At the time, Flaherty paddle boarded out to Malone, and found him floating unconscious in the sea.
He was listed in critical condition under yesterday’s tragic turn of events.
Malone, 54, spent more than a week in the Boston Medical Center, with some reports suggesting he was in a coma.
