Local businesses extend Small Business Saturday sales
That’s why local businesses like these are looking forward, not just to Black Friday, but to Small Business Saturday. The owner of Don Jenkins Jewelers says he’s been there for 28 years and has seen more and more businesses and specialty shops come into the area.

“There’s definitely been a shift towards choosing how you want to spend your dollars, and a lot of that is turning into supporting local and small businesses”.
Rachel Levey told 22News, “It’s important to support your community”.
“Small Business Saturday” is here and many local shops are continuing their sales clear into the weekend.
“Last year, small business Saturday was our biggest day of the year”.
Starns encourages shoppers to keep local stores in mind this holiday season, because says the money spent at a small retailer goes right back into the local economy.
“Small businesses are considered the backbone of your community”, said Matt McCormick, Columbia Chamber of Commerce President.
Customers like Emilee Griffith would rather shop local than in big box stores or online. “[We] wouldn’t have opened a store anywhere else”.
“We’re going to be having special discounts and we’re going to be having refreshments to thank the customers for shopping small business”, said Laudo. It also provides free marketing materials to small businesses.
American Express coined the term in 2010, to recognize local businesses who create jobs and boost the economy.
And for many small businesses, days like today aren’t their busiest of the year.
