Local businesses offering holiday shopping deals
Small Business Saturday has grown into a major economic boom for independent businesses in downtown Lafayette and the country.

It’s the 5th year for Small Business Saturday since it was first introduced by American Express in 2010, and local small businesses have cashed in on the holiday shopping rush.
Thanksgiving has come and gone, but “thanks-getting” is still going strong, especially for small businesses.
Businesses on Central Avenue celebrated with free gifts and Shop Small bags for customers.
While local businesses would rather consumers shop small, Hinthorn says they don’t discriminate against those who can’t break the chain.
Although this day is dedicated to fulfilling that desire, Shaw hopes that the community will continue to support small businesses every day.
“It’s the time of the year to care, so care about what you’re buying and who it’s coming from”, she said.
Some local businesses in the Ghent section of Norfolk were open on Black Friday and will be open on Cyber Monday.
It’s just as important for mom and pop shops.
“We offer things that you can’t really get at the big box stores”.
Owner Lauren Baker said shops are working together to bring more shoppers, not only to their own stores, but the whole area. “It’s not the stuff you’re going to find at the mall, not the stuff you’re going to find in Chicago just down the Michigan Mile, it’s the stuff you find here that people are just going to love”.
Like many small businesses, Zeller’s one-on-one consumer approach doesn’t come with a big price tag.
“Sometimes the clothing can be a little bit more expensive, but I think the quality is better and they give better deals”, said Megan Geitz, a small business shopper.

“We treat our costumers, as individuals and try, and help them find what they need, and help them with what they are looking for, and if we don’t have it. We will try and find it”, said Theroff.
