As the sun set behind the Cape Fear River on Sunday, enveloped in a halo of pinks and yellows, members of the Wilmington LGBT community stood in solidarity with victims of the deadliest massacre in US history.
Meanwhile at Hula’s Bar and Lei Stand off Kapahulu Avenue, black ribbons hung alongside a rainbow flag to honor the memory of those killed.
“We wanted to come together as a community”, Eick says.
“This senseless act of hate against innocent people is a heartbreaking tragedy for the entire nation”.
In partnership with PFLAG Sandpoint, one vigil in Sandpoint will be held from 6:00 p.m.to 8:00 p.m. on Monday night at Farmin Park.
Organizers said they will hold a rally on Tuesday, June 14, at 1:30 p.m. and it will start at the Capitol steps off of State Street. “I come here in solidarity to address the issue of gun violence that seems to be out of control in this country”. They’re talking about a person who’s a parent and a grandparent.
“We see on the news today yet another horrific instance of man’s inhumanity to man, triggered by the fear of differences. To be there to reinforce and let everyone know that we’re here … there’s yet another reason to continue the fight and struggle for equality for all”. This presumed act of terror is a reminder that we can not become complacent.
