Results of recently-tested water samples, released Friday out of Flint, Michigan, show levels of lead so high in some locations that government-issued filtration systems are unable to effectively treat the water.

DEQ Director Keith Creagh told the Detroit Free Press his agency will outline plans Monday to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Regulators failed to ensure the new water was treated properly and lead from pipes leached into the water supply.

Water from Detroit is now once again flowing in Flint’s pipes, but the damage to those pipes has already has been done, requiring them to be repaired or replaced.

At Tuesday’s city council meeting, it was mentioned that Norwalk has tested well below the lead-level limits.

“FNS is dedicated to supporting the nutrition of Flint’s older children through other existing federal programs”, the letter said.

The federal government has denied Michigan’s request to increase nutrition funding for older low-income Flint children who may be affected by the city’s lead-tainted water.

A MI town continues to be under a public health emergency after its drinking water became contaminated.

Some portions of the city’s water system could be given an all-clear on a rolling basis in conjunction with local, federal and independent experts before mid-April, the paper said, citing other state officials.

The federal Department of Health and Human Services is expected to update Creagh today about the residual impact of chlorine added earlier to city water.

For more than a year, residents were told they had nothing to fear from the brown water coming out of their taps, even as warning signs multiplied and state workers in Flint chose to eschew the tap for bottled in their offices. Snyder said Saturday that Obama denied the disaster declaration request based on the legal requirement that such relief is intended for natural events, fires, floods or explosions.

Research conducted by Gagnon and colleagues in Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto and St. Catharines found that failure to upgrade service lines can in fact leave the residents of a home at greater risk than they were before cities improved their water mains.

Despite the legal limitation, the governor is considering an appeal to exhaust “every opportunity to provide resources” for residents, Snyder spokesman Dave Murray said.

Not only is it unusual for elementary students to mobilize a community to action, but their work will directly affect the health of fellow children and families, said Janet Barclay of Rochester, who dropped off a few cases of water after hearing about the event in the newspaper. “I have three small children of my own and we do everything to protect our children, but sometimes things are out of our control”, said West. “We just want to do what we can do to help”.
