Two Missionaries of Charity, from St. Louis, and two students helped in the unveiling. About 1,500 homeless people and 13 heads of state and even royalty witnessed the canonization. She died in 1997 at the age of 87. “Now, just a little over 20 years later, we see her canonized”.

Mother Teresa was canonised at the Vatican yesterday.

He added: “She made her voice heard before the powers of the world, so that they might recognize their guilt for the crimes of poverty they themselves created”.

World dignitaries, political leaders, the famous and the great flocked to this city yesterday to honor the tiny nun who lived in poverty all her life – but the most powerful tribute was paid by the quiet women in the massive crowd.

The ceremony outside Saint Peter’s Basilica was attended by thousands of clergy and supporters.

Rita Ora praised Mother Teresa as ‘a humble woman who managed to unite all mankind without any discrimination’.

That’s how Kathy Burke says she felt leaving mass in Mahanoy City. the church formerly known as blessed Teresa of Calcutta has a new name – Saint Teresa of Calcutta. She continues her legacy of working and praying with the poor alongside other nuns at the Missionaries of Charity.

“In recognition of Mother Teresa’s selfless and dedicated services, a grateful nation conferred on her India’s highest civilian award “Bharat Ratna” in 1980″, he said. But following pressure from her devotees, Pope John Paul II granted the special dispensation in 1999 to begin the formal process. “I am so proud to be from Kolkata”.

“She had a great impact, this place was just shining like a star”, said Kaliea “She had a glow on her face, and she was a totally wrinkled woman, but still so lovely”.

Mother Teresa, the nun whose work with the dying and destitute of Kolkata made her a global icon of Christian charity, was made a saint on Sunday.
