Local Democratic Leaders React to DNC Chair’s Impending Resignation

In a written statement, Wasserman Schultz said that she will briefly address the delegates, as well as open and close the convention, but she thought the best way to accomplish the goal of electing Hillary Clinton as president was for her to step down as Democratic Party Chair. Debbie Wasserman Schultz should resign as Democratic Party chairwoman, but some feel that her resignation at the end of this week’s convention doesn’t go far enough and suggested there should be a thorough housecleaning at the top of the party.

Wasserman-Schultz resigned right in the middle of the march and protesters rejoiced, with some believing their actions this weekend influenced that outcome.

Illinois Democratic Party Chairman Mike Madigan predicted that by Thursday his 196-member delegation would be solid in its support for Hillary Clinton.

It’s also come as a blow to a party keen on projecting stability and unity in contrast to last week’s Republican convention when Donald Trump was nominated as their presidential candidate.

The political stage shifts to Philadelphia and the Democratic National Convention this week. Tim Kaine, in Miami, July 23, 2016.

“Families are going to have divisions, that’s normal stuff”, said U.S. Rep. Michael E. Capuano (D-Mass.), a Clinton supporter who shrugged off the impact of Wasserman Schultz’s departure. “I’m not shocked but I’m disappointed”, Sanders said of the emails earlier on Sunday on ABC’s This Week.

But the meeting also revealed unhappiness among Sanders supporters with Clinton’s choice of Sen.

President Barack Obama and former president Bill Clinton will speak later in the week.

“Would I have preferred to see someone like an Elizabeth Warren selected by Secretary Clinton? He is a very nice guy”. “Yeah, they are. He’s more conservative than I am”. “Yes, I would have”, he said.

Thousands of demonstrators are taking to Philadelphia’s sweltering streets Sunday, cheering, chanting and beating drums in the first major protests ahead of the Democratic National Convention, as the city wilts during a heat wave.
