Zika is primarily spread to people through the bite of an infected Aedes aegypti mosquito – the same kind that causes dengue and chikungunya viruses.

Symptoms include mild fever, a rash, and conjunctivitis, which last for a few days.
Governor Dannel Malloy ordered the DPH to begin testing for Zika virus in January.
