Local Non-Profit Gives Back on Martin Luther King Jr. Day
“This is a day in which we re-dedicate ourselves for the coming year”, said Gov. Dannel Malloy.

The MLK Peace Walk and Parade celebrates the 30th anniversary of the federal holiday honoring the slain civil rights leader.
“We have a lot of opportunities, we can do more things now that most people do”, said Alvin Harper, a teen with Vision of Hope AME Church.
The Lehigh Valley honored the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through artistry, history and prayer on Monday.
Those who knew Dr. King can’t help but travel down memory lane.
He fought to ensure equal rights for blacks, which is why he is celebrated today.
“We have much to do so that black men and women no longer fear dying in our streets”, said U.S Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).
“MLK was a big contribution to society and me just being here as somebody who can help contribute to this case and live on the legacy that is why I’m doing this today”, said Ian Rwebemeera student at UND.
The annual Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration at Rev. Dr. Gadson Graham’s Canaan Baptist Church in Paterson.
Coinciding with the King holiday, African-American director Spike Lee and actress Jada Pinkett Smith said they would boycott the Academy Awards ceremony because black actors had been shut out of Oscar nominations for a second straight year.

Scott and many others in attendance say they’re hopeful that Charleston will continue to be a place where people of all races can unite and overcome adversity.
“Happy Birthday”, siblings Andre, Alyssa and Amara King and Ashlyn Lucas said.
Words they say are in harmony with Dr. King’s message.
