She added: “We’re actually seeing the real numbers for autism now”.
One myth is that people with autism don’t want friends. No two individuals with autism are the same and the range of strengths and challenges vary from person to person.
“Most of the world’s minds operate like a PC, and people with autism, their thinking operates like a Mac”.
In a report published by the Post Independent, “Aimee, who worked with an ASD child for three years as a severe-needs paraprofessional at Kathryn Senor Elementary School prior to Jackson’s birth, spotted the signs early”.
Jon Spiers, chief executive of Autistica, said: “This research shows that the age of diagnosis for children with autism remains as unacceptably high as it was ten years ago”.
“While the average percentage of children identified with (autism spectrum disorder) in all 11 communities stayed the same, in two communities, the percentage of children identified with ASD increased significantly between 2010 and 2012”, said the CDC statement.
The causes of autism are not completely understood; studies show that both environment and genetics may play a role.
Catherine Wolverton, the library’s director, said she expects a large crowd and is looking forward to seeing the film at the event in April. Thursday the City of Austin made a proclamation declaring it so and recognized the city for providing Applied Behavioral Analysis therapy for city employees’ children who have autism.
World Autism Awareness Month began over the weekend with major landmarks around the world being lit up in blue, including the Sydney Opera House.
Nearly half of those questioned, 44 per cent, said they sometimes do not go out because they are anxious about how people will react, and 66 per cent of autistic people said they feel socially isolated.
“The most powerful tool we have right now to make a difference in the lives of children with (autism) is early identification”, Shapira said. And it’s an important day to have, because misconceptions about autism persist even today.
“There are not enough employment opportunities for people with autism, but we’re working toward it”, she said. “All children develop differently, but where autistic children fall on the spectrum dictates how they will develop”.

The data may not cover the entire population, since autism may be underdiagnosed among black and Hispanic children.
