A new year is a new chance at a healthy lifestyle for many people, and area gyms say the result is a significant spike in membership in January. The second week of January is expected to be the busiest time for new gym memberships. Holly said that this is usually because of self reflection at the end of the prior year. People Magazine reported online that Kim Kardashian West doesn’t believe in them and instead is setting small goals throughout the year that include losing baby weight and going on vacation.
Radlinger says, “It’s all about empowering everybody that walks through that door and it’s all about supporting, it’s a community in support of health and fitness”.
“Group fitness is one of our most popular things”, says General Manager Kaleigh Johnson.
“Like everybody, I’d like to lose a few pounds, take a little better care of myself”, he said.
“We do see a lot of New Year’s resolution folks coming in, folks at the first of the year wanting to make some behavior changes”, says Dave Elsen, District Executive Director.
“People make goals and then don’t stick with them. I don’t wait until New Year’s”. Team up with a family member to set your 2016 goals, and establish a game plan that is dedicated to achieving them.
Staff say working out not only helps you physically but mentally as well.

“It’s nice to be around other people and be motivated”, Torello said. “New Year’s resolution, new year, new me, so people like to come in and get their bodies ready for the new year”, added Tim Duwalt who works at the PEAK Health and Wellness Center. “Everyone’s New Year’s resolution is to work out and go to the gym but no one follows through with it”.
