September 21: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in Pakistan has removed the London-based coterie of MQM founder Altaf Hussain from the top decision-making forum of the party after coordination committee convener Nadeem Nusrat said that the supremo was still the party’s uncontested chief. “This House demands from Government of Pakistan to trial MQM chief and his supporters involved under Article 6 of Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan”, read the resolutions. It was claimed that Farooq Sattar was incapable of cutting the umbilical cord with Altaf Hussain and his London Secretariat. “There is no way we can allow any harm to be done to Pakistan or Islam”, Siddiqui said and added that such acts were unpardonable. The MQM leaders in Pakistan declared that the party has “already dissociated itself from the London based leadership following the August 22 speech”. “We reached this decision without anyone dictating to us what to do”. Many would maintain that this is the right time for the party to say goodbye to its violent past.

Senior Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader and party convener Nadeem Nusrat on Tuesday said Altaf Hussain has given identity to Urdu speaking community and MQM is nothing “minus Altaf”. “I have been associated with MQM for 28 years”, he said, breaking into tears.
