London’s Notting Hill Carnival celebrates 50 years
While a parade of dancers on colourful floats snaked its way through west London, police were busy making hundreds of arrests.

Four stabbings took place on the first day of the annual event celebrating Afro-Caribbean culture in London’s west that is traditionally a family-orientated event.
Police officers “dread” having to work at the Notting Hill Carnival and an “unacceptable” number are being attacked at the event, a rank-and-file group leader has said.

On Sunday a 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of GBH after a 15-year-old boy was stabbed on Wornington Road in Kensington and Chelsea, while the same day two boys aged 15 and 16 were stabbed in Ladbroke Grove.
Met Police officers seized a large canister of compressed nitrous oxide “laughing gas” on Queensway in Bayswater. It quickly grew and this year’s edition featured 60 bands and 38 sound systems.
