Long Beach Environmental Services Provides Christmas Tree Recycling

The City of Joplin is offering a free recycling option for residents to drop off natural Christmas trees now through January 31st.

The city receives twice the amount of garbage in the weeks following Christmas Day than what is typically collected for the rest of January and February combined. Hours: Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.to 3:30 p.m.

Midlanders are asked to drop off their trees at one of their drop off locations so the trees can be recycled for mulch.

Donated trees can also be made into fish habitats upon request. The trees will be taken for composting at the company’s facility.

The following cities do not offer Christmas tree recycling: Belleair, Belleair Beach, Belleair Bluffs, Belleair Shore, Indian Shores, Kenneth City, North Redington Beach, Redington Beach, Redington Shores, Seminole, South Pasadena and St. Pete Beach.

Trees must be free of ornaments, lights, tree stands and other materials. “Last year, we had 110 trees”.

You don’t have to be an Austin curbside customer to take advantage of their service, but you will have to wait until Saturday, Dec. 31 to drop it off.

No yard waste will be accepted – only Christmas trees.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Lake Allatoona Project office is also taking trees to be recycled, but they will not be chipped. Before tossing out that live tree in the trash or burning it, consider its possibilities as wildlife habitat. For more information, call the city’s Public Works department at 757-220-6140. Trees seven feet in length or less can be placed at the curb uncut.

In Prince George’s County, the Department of the Environment offers free Christmas tree recycling with curbside collection now through February 1.

The pickup trucks will be loaded with a tree or two, and then driven to a nearby lake where the trees will be transferred to a boat.

Christmas is over and it is time to dispose of that tree inside the house
