“I’m just nervous something could have gone wrong, a lot of things have gone on here in Brentwood”, she said.

Sini said that there were indications that the assault on Mickens may have been carried out by members of a gang.

“She suffered at least 10 injuries, mostly to the head and face”, Police Commissioner Timothy Sini said. Her daughter would have turned 16 today. “Because when he got home, I was there to pick her up”, said Nisa’s father, Rob Mickens.

The widow and children of a man who went to a rural Hawaii health center with a sore throat in 2013 and ended up dead will receive a $4.2 million settlement from the federal government, the widow’s lawyer said Wednesday.

Homicide Squad detectives ask anyone with information about this incident to call them at 631-852-6392 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

Police have not arrested any suspects.

Police say another body was found at approximately 5:14 p.m. Wednesday matching the description of Mickens’s friend Kayla Cuevas, 16, of Brentwood.

“You all need to say something”, she said.

He left the basketball at the memorial, recalling how his daughter loved the game and often wore a basketball jersey. “We need to find her”, Alvarado said. Mickens’ family said the teen was out with her best friend, Cuevas.

Nisa was thinking of becoming a nurse or veterinarian, her father said. “There was nothing that she couldn’t do”.
