Out of healthy quarterbacks and facing a 17-point deficit 14 minutes into Saturday’s regular-season finale at McLane Stadium, the 12th-ranked Baylor Bears turned to a receiver and ultimately the wildcat offense with a pair of running backs.

“We just have to try to salvage the year by going to a bowl game and winning the bowl game”, Baylor coach Art Briles said.
In terms of football brawls, this was a pretty good one even though there wasn’t much action.
Coleman, as a redshirt junior, still had a season of eligibility remaining at Baylor.

Rose added his third field goal of the afternoon to put the Longhorns back up by six, and then the defense forced a Jefferson fumble in Baylor territory to thwart the Bears’ effort to grab their first lead of the game. Naashon Hughes registered the only sack for Texas.
The Bears were in line to be the Big 12’s representative in the Sugar Bowl against an SEC team, with the expectation that league champ Oklahoma (11-1) will get into the College Football Playoff. “The biggest thing is if we can begin to execute – and these freshman bigs are coming along – we get Keisha Lee back on the floor, there’s nobody else left on our schedule where we come into the game and have to play a ideal game to beat them”. They wanted a win over the Bears to boost their pride.

The Longhorns limited Baylor to 84 passing yards.
