Looking Back at the Joker, One of Film’s Most Iconic Villains
Margot Robbie looks absolutely awesome in “Suicide Squad” – where she is primarily in very short, very tight shorts. Take his version of Harley Quinn, for example, because she is clearly the character that interested Ayer the most. Writer/director David Ayer (“Fury“) does a lot wrong here, but the soundtrack is just right. United States government official Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) wants to use these supervillains as a potential fail-safe against out of control threats, nicknamed the Suicide Squad, comprising of master-assassin Deadshot (Will Smith), the mutant Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) the Joker’s girlfriend, Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney) and the fire demon El Diablo (Jay Hernandez).

The baddies of Suicide Squad are getting pummeled by critics, but they’re fighting back at the box office. For Suicide Squad, one of those positives is Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn. Keeping an eye on the so-called “Suicide Squad” is Col. Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman), a real-deal military guy who doesn’t take kindly to miscreants, and his right-hand girl Katana (Karen Fukuhara), who carries the souls of her victims in her sword.
The story goes that a secret government agency recruits imprisoned supervillains to execute risky black ops missions in exchange for clemency.
Company Founder, Shaun Neff commented, “The Suicide Squad vibe really connects with the imagination of our irreverent Neff customer and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase selected creative elements of this storied DC franchise”. “Who knows”, Leto said. But in this film, the Joker looks like a caricature with bad dental work.
So I say this to both sides of the heated debate that’s happening around Suicide Squad: Calm down.
One unexpected disappointment is Jared Leto, who cameos as the Joker in the film’s subplot. Instead of the Joker cruelly pushing Harley from the ledge against her will, the film shows her “taking an oath” to the Joker and falling into the Value-Added Tax as a free-will expression of her undying love for him. But it’s such a mess that it came as little surprise when reports trickled out about the film’s behind-the-scenes woes, including a claim that the studio interfered with director David Ayer’s more somber vision. I think that the Joker… we did a lot of experimentation on the set, we explored a lot.

To that end, here are four things that stood out in this flawed movie as being legitimately good. Robbie does what she can, but the part doesn’t provide her with much – even most of her wisecracks land like bricks.
