It left England knowing they had to chase down a record second innings total if they were going to go 1-0 ahead in the four-match series. Here are the full highlights of the Lord’s Test.
It sparked a remarkable celebration from the Pakistan side, who, as their captain Misbah-ul-Haq had done upon reaching his first-innings century, completed a set of push-ups in front of the Member’s pavilion.
Debutant Jake Ball was run out by Shan Masood as he looked for a second run to keep Woakes on strike but was short by some distance as Pakistan wrapped up the England tail.
England faltered to a 75-run defeat against Pakistan as Yasir Shah had the final say in an epic first Investec Test at Lord’s.
After another wayward start from Pakistan’s new-ball pair of Rahat Ali and Amir, the former claimed the crucial wicket of Alastair Cook with one that held its line up the Lord’s slope, which had the England captain edging behind for eight. Yasir said that initially he wasn’t able to get a lot of turn from the wicket but after working on his action and line and length, he was able to bowl well and dismiss the English batsmen.
Earlier in the day, it was Broad who picked up both the remaining Pakistan wickets, on successive deliveries, to wrap up the visitors’ second innings on 215 that set a 283-run target for his team.
England were holding firm at 195 for 6 thanks to a determined stand of 56 between Jonny Bairstow (48) and Chris Woakes (23).
Left-arm seamer Rahat Ali’s gave an impressive performance with a triple strike reducing England to 47-3 and Yasir Shah later bagged the wickets of Gary Ballance and Moeen Ali with his sharp turners. Mohammad Amir bowled out 2 players.
Woakes, who was recalled to Test duty after fellow all-rounder Ben Stokes was injured during the preceding Sri Lanka series, now has an overall return of 11 for 101 – the first time he has taken at least 10 wickets in a Test match.
“We allowed Yasir to get six wickets when he wasn’t turning the ball”.
Pakistan will now look forward to playing their hosts in the second Test at Manchester venue Old Trafford on July 22.
Pakistan, 214 for eight overnight, lost their last two wickets for just one run in 13 balls during Sunday’s opening 10 minutes.
Vince added just one run to his lunch score when, not moving his feet, he edged a booming drive of a Wahab Riaz delivery that moved away to second slip Younis, who this time clung on at the second attempt. Mohammad Amir struck for Pakistan right in the next over, when he bowled Stuart Broad.

Ballance was then bowled by a wonder-ball from Yasir that turned sharply and crashed into the Yorkshireman’s stumps.
