Hopkins, whose nastiness has made her a household name, mocked celebrities who had expressed their sadness at hearing the news of Cilla’s death after it was announced yesterday.
And Lord Sugar’s outburst wasn’t enough to put an end to Katie’s attack on any stars who dared tweet about the loss of Cilla. “But the race to proclaim this on Twitter is a curious thing”.
After Hopkins’s first comment caused outrage online, with some Twitter users asking what was wrong with her and urging the former Celebrity Big Brother contestant to “have some respect”, she tweeted a follow-up remark saying: “I understand people love Cilla“.
But Hopkins instead took to Twitter to slam those who paid respects, claiming stars were in a “rush to gush” at the 72-year-old’s passing.
The Apprentice boss Lord Sugar has spoken out against Katie Hopkins. “When slebs want to be seen showing respect, there is a deafening clamour #rushtogush”. “This was too far”, Lord Sugar wrote.
Continuing to wind him up, Katie Price’s rival hit back: “Calm down @Lord_Sugar, you know you love your favourite Apprentice really…”
A Spanish police spokeswoman said Cilla had died at her Spanish home in Estepona on the Costa del Sol.

National treasure Cilla’s death was met with tributes from members of the public and dozens of celebrities, including Sir Cliff Richard, Sir Paul McCartney, and Dame Joan Collins.
