Los Angeles airport evacuated after reports of shooter

No shots have been fired, confirm police after media reports about an active shooter at Los Angeles International airport on Monday.

Travelers were seen running with their luggage at Los Angeles International Airport as police investigated an unspecified incident Sunday at 9 p.m.

Local police say they searched the airport, adding: “All precautions being taken to ensure safety of public”.

Also, From the reports, Where the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) issued an area stop at the airport until 10pm and officials connected the airport to incoming traffic. Earlier, social media posts from Los Angeles International Airport described shots fired and police rushing to the scene. Photos and videos from airport terminal appeared to show the airport being evacuated.

The police and fire departments had deployed many units to the airport after reports of a “security situation” and a potential “active shooter”.

Part of the airport was briefly closed after loud noises were heard that sounded like gunfire, possibly caused by a man dressed in a black Zorro outfit who was later detained by police. He said looking out the window he could see many evacuees gathered out on the tarmac, a odd sight even for someone who travels nearly constantly.

“I saw people running faster than I’ve ever seen people run just to get out of the way”, Nguyen said. The roads were reopened around 10:30 p.m.

She said she had also left the terminal and run through a parking area to her vehicle and left the airport.

The incident comes two weeks after reported gunshots prompted an evacuation at New York City’s JFK Airport in what turned out to be a false report.
