Los Angeles Dodgers Re-Sign 2B Howie Kendrick On Two-Year Deal

FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal is reporting the Dodgers are “considering” Kendrick because the club has a “greater need for depth” at third base since the oft-injured Justin Turner is coming off knee surgery.

Kendrick turned down a one-year, $15.8 million qualifying offer from the Dodgers at the beginning of the offseason and became a free agent. Kendrick’s contract is worth a total of $20 million, per Jon Heyman. 295 with a. 336 on base percentage, a. 409 slugging percentage, 64 runs, 22 doubles, two triples, six stolen bases, nine home runs and 54 RBIs. The Dodgers had already signed Chase Utley, obtain Micah Johnson from the White Sox, and Enrique Hernandez, who is planned to be a super utility player.

In those 117 games, Kendrick hit.

Kendrick bats right-handed and Utley left-handed, meaning the Dodgers could rotate the two players based on the opposing pitchers on the mound.

Kendrick was reportedly interested in signing with the Arizona Diamondbacks this offseason after they signed former Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke. 285 with an OPS+ above the league average of 100 for five consecutive seasons.

For L.A., bringing back Kendrick means losing the chance to gain a compensation pick. Both sides have not confirmed the deal as of yet.
