Los Angeles police investigating knife found on property owned by Simpson

The knife is being tested for fingerprints and hair. He also said that police were “quite shocked” to learn about the knife after so many years.

During his trial the owners of a cutlery shop testified Simpson had purchased a large knife from them weeks before the murder.

Maycott retired from the LAPD in 1998, Copeland said, and was working security for a movie or TV show when the construction worker gave him the knife. However, he went on to pre-empt any incriminating evidence that may be found on the knife saying that the officer that received the knife from the construction worker that found it has “destroyed any credibility you might prescribe to it”.

The buck knife found by the construction worker in 2002 and kept for years by a cop is now being tested.

Later in the day, a person close to the officer disputed the LAPD timeline, TMZ reported.

The department was looking into whether criminal charges could be filed against the ex-officer who held onto the knife.

Neiman said he didn’t know why the ex-officer waited so long to turn it over to police.

“It is being treated as we would all evidence”, LAPD Capt. Andy Neiman said Friday, according to Fox News. “I don’t know what to say about that except I can’t believe it, but it’s apparently what happened”. LAPD Spokesman Andrew Neiman said.

Leslie Garson, a family representative, said the story had “striking parallels” to the discovery of a knife several years ago – which turned out to have nothing to do with the case.

Internal administrative charges were unlikely since the officer is now retired. It’s not clear if this latest discovery will be any different, but when News 8’s Josh Scheinblum asked Dr. Lee if he thinks Simpson was responsible for the deaths of his ex-wife and her friend, he told him to just look at the evidence. The date the knife was recovered has not been released. In any event, Simpson can’t be retried in the case.

A jury acquitted Simpson in the killings in October 1995, a decision that largely split the country along racial lines.

Simpson was later found not guilty.

There has been a renewed interest in the Simpson case lately, especially since a new generation is revisiting the story due to the involvement of the Kardashians. Goldman’s father, Fred, said he would rather not form an opinion on the knife until he hears more definitive news.

If the knife turns out to be linked to Simpson, that fact could be raised at his parole hearing.

It was yet another twist in the case that even two decades later remains at the center of American attention.

“This is a double homicide that is still open and ongoing”, he said. There’s a time-lapse situation, he said.

Douglas told ET that despite the new findings, he doesn’t think Simpson – who is now serving a 33-year sentence in a Nevada state prison after he was arrested in connection with a robbery in September 2007 – should worry.
