Los Angeles Rams sack Seattle Seahawks in L.A. home opener

Its only offensive touchdown came on the final drive of the opener against Miami.

Chargers 38, Jaguars 14: Philip Rivers matched his career-high with four touchdown passes, including two to Travis Benjamin, and Melvin Gordon ran for one score and had his first 100-yard game.

Both underwent MRIs on Monday, but Carroll did not immediately have results, saying it would be later in the week before their status was determined.

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson completed 22-of-35 passes for 253 yards, including a precision 53 yarder to Tyler Lockett which got Seattle to the Rams’ 35 yard line with 1:49 remaining.

The quarterback got pressured into a throwaway out of the end zone the first time.

Running back Thomas Rawls also suffered a contusion to the outside of his upper left leg and like the other two will be evaluated later in the week. “I just got to do better, hold on to the ball in those situations”.

“We are looking to see if we get Germain back … he’s really close to getting back”. “Our first game back here, the fans have been incredible, and they’ve made it a tough place to play (for opponents) starting on day one”.

The New England Patriots started 2003 with a 31-0 clubbing by the Bills, but won 28 of their next 31 regular season games and back to back championships.

“Those are all legit”, Carroll said of the issues Ifedi’s absence has caused.

That is the solace and hope for Seahawks fans to cling to after that mess of a 9-3 loss in Los Angeles, in which yards were scarce, points were almost nonexistent and frustration was rampant.

By comparison, the Seahawks averaged 4.5 yards per carry last season, and their 423 points were fewer than only the Panthers, Cardinals and Patriots.

And the inability to find sustained success on the ground is putting extra pressure on a hobbled Wilson and the passing game, especially on third down. Every two years for the last six years, Pete Carroll’s team has been punished by the NFL for violating the league’s rules prohibiting excessive physical contact in offseason workouts. That is prohibited by the labor agreement with the players’ union.

After not reaching the 20-yard-line against the San Francisco 49ers, the Rams crossed into the red zone once against the Seahawks. “It was an awesome historical moment to be here and I am glad we were able to come out with the win”. “Because we want to have a great season, we’ll put it that way and give ourselves a chance”, said defensive end Robert Quinn who had two tackles and a sack.

Goff, the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft, was promoted to backup for the game after being the inactive third-stringer in the Rams’ opening-week loss. We practice hard around here and we always have, and we have to do it right. We got to keep working on it someway somehow, whether it’s special teams or defense, but I’ll take a touchdown next week.

In notifying the Seahawks of the discipline, the National Football League cited Appendix G of the collective bargaining agreement, which states “voluntary offseason workout programs are meant to provide training, teaching and physical conditioning for players”.

The NFL and NFLPA both independently viewed video obtained from the Seahawks OTA in June and both agreed the Seahawks violated the rule.

“A couple young guys, and they just went the wrong way at the wrong time, you know, and banged heads”, Carroll said. It reminds me of when I used to work at a gas station, and one of the compulsive lotto players would win $100 on a $10 scratcher.
