Los Angeles Rams: Sean McVay’s former student Kirk Cousins wins matchup
After a commanding week 1 win over the Indianapolis Colts, the Los Angeles Rams hit a road block against the Washington Redskins and fell 27-20.

The Redskins have a significant lead in the series, 25-13-1, dating all the way back to November, 1937. While there’s no way to answer that now, remember back to when these teams last met, nearly two years ago to the date.
The Seahawks’ flailing protection and blocking may get a brief respite in Week 3 when they host the 0-2 Colts. “When you go into a game, you always envision how you want to put your players in good spots, and I didn’t necessary follow through on that plan, based on the way things played out”. This Sunday, they looked lost for most of the first half, on both sides of the ball, and their second-half improvement came after Washington suffered a series of injuries to starters.
“I didn’t have a nice spread-out couch like I did in Washington, so it was a little bit easier to sleep there”, McVay said. “So, let’s give all credit to the O-line and guys that were blocking for me”. Grant drew six targets last week while Jamison Crowder was hampered by a hip injury but obviously didn’t play as large a role with Crowder closer to full strength this week. The Redskins dominated the Rams in the rushing yards category. But this is a Redskins team that lacks quality and match-winners, and they lost the fourth 0-11, to immediately allow the Eagles to establish themselves in the NFC East, and leave the Redskins with the read possibility of opening the season 0-2 considering they go on the road to the LA Memorial Coliseum today against a team that scored almost 50 points there last weekend. Perine got an extended opportunity with Kelley out, and finished the game with a pedestrian 67 yards on 21 carries (3.2 yards per carry).
Goff had 1:44 on the clock and two timeouts, and 72 yards to go in order to tie the game. The victory, while much needed, came with a price-tag of injured players. That fact was based entirely on the results last week of both franchises: a bad home loss by Washington and a drubbing of the Indianapolis Colts by the Rams. And, frankly, that’s what they should be talking about.
Gurley caught a screen pass from quarterback Jared Goff on the Washington 18-yard-line and then proceeded to hurdle a Redskins’ defender has he dove for the pylon for the score.
On LA’s first offensive play following Washington’s opening TD, Norman jarred the ball loose from Todd Gurley, and Terrell McClain covered it up.
Los Angeles (1-0) also signed cornerback Kevin Peterson from the practice squad to the active roster and waived offensive lineman Aaron Neary. Everett was the Rams’ second-round pick of the 2017 draft. I’m not sure Cousins will be as generous this week.
The Rams looked more impressive losing in Week 2 than they did winning in Week 1.

It is a young team that will hopefully get better from week to week. Cousins will bounce back, but it won’t be enough.
