All campuses in the Los Angeles Unifed School district – the second largest district in the country – were closed, LAPD confirmed, following the bomb threat.

All of the district’s school buses were recalled to its yard in Gardena.

Superintendent Ramon Cortines said the threat was “conveyed not to one school, but many schools in the district”.

Several school bus drivers told ABC 7 that dispatchers had called them back to their respective depots in the morning, but school officials said no buses were threatened.

More details about the threat were expected to be provided during a Tuesday morning news conference.

It is unclear when the threat was made and to which school board member, but threat prompted LAUSD to close all schools effective immediately, the LA Times reported.

“I think it is important that I take the precaution based on what has happened recently and what has happened in the past”, Cortines said.

The district spans 720 square miles including Los Angeles and all or part of more than 30 smaller cities and some unincorporated areas.
